EMERALD BEACH RESIDENCE

A considered restoration of a relocated 1930’s coastal home

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Set amongst the natural bushland of Emerald Beach, this relocated 1930’s residence has been carefully restored and elevated into a refined coastal home that respects its origins while embracing a more contemporary finish.

Originally moved from the Jetty, the home carries a strong sense of history. Our role was to preserve that character while introducing a more resolved colour palette, sharper detailing, and long-term durability suited to its coastal environment.

Working closely with Allan, every element — from colour selection to final detailing — was thoughtfully considered to ensure the home feels cohesive, warm, and highly refined.

EXTERIOR – SOFT NEUTRALS & DEFINED CONTRAST

The exterior transformation centres around a soft, warm neutral palette that allows the home to sit naturally within its surroundings, while introducing contrast to highlight its architectural features.

Weatherboards finished in a warm off-white / soft coastal neutral, lifting the entire home while maintaining a timeless feel
Windows and trims defined in a deep charcoal/graphite tone, creating strong lines and visual structure
A bold feature entry door in statement yellow, adding personality and a striking focal point against the otherwise muted palette
Existing timber decking and balustrades retained and integrated, complementing the natural setting

This balance of softness and contrast gives the home a high-end coastal presence without feeling over-designed — refined, confident, and highly liveable.

PREPARATION – RESTORING THE FOUNDATION

Behind the finish is where this project was truly defined.

Given the age of the home, extensive preparation works were required to ensure both presentation and performance:

Full scraping and removal of all loose and failing coatings
Detailed sanding and stabilisation of ageing weatherboards and trims
Stain sealing of exposed and vulnerable timber
Repair and refinement of fascia, eaves, and external linings
Complete rebuild of the coating system using premium exterior products suited to coastal conditions

This process ensures the finish is not only visually sharp, but built to withstand the elements long-term.

ENTRY & TRANSITION SPACES

The entry and transition spaces were designed to feel calm, welcoming, and cohesive with the broader palette.

Soft neutral wall finishes paired with warm tiled flooring create a grounded, inviting entry
Natural light and shadow play across the surfaces, enhancing texture and depth
Retained materials and finishes ensure continuity between old and new

These spaces act as a quiet introduction to the home — understated, but highly considered.

INTERIOR – WARMTH, LIGHT & CHARACTER

Internally, the focus was on enhancing the home’s existing character while introducing a more refined and cohesive feel.

Hallway panelling transitioned from clear veneer to a warm off-white, instantly lifting the space
Original timber features, including ceiling details and trims, were retained and complemented
Each room was individually colour-selected to create distinct mood and personality
A balance of soft neutrals and subtle feature tones ensures the home feels layered rather than flat

The result is an interior that feels both fresh and respectful of its heritage, with a level of detail that elevates every space.

This project is defined by a carefully curated palette that balances restraint with personality:

Primary Exterior: Warm off-white / soft neutral
Secondary (Trims & Windows): Deep charcoal / graphite
Feature Element: Statement yellow entry door
Interior Base: Soft whites and warm neutrals
Feature Areas: Subtle, room-specific tones to enhance atmosphere
